Antarctic Suit
Antarctica, 2020 - Ongoing
Developed in collaboration with UNLESS "The Antarctic Suit" testifies to the impossibility of survival within the unforgiving desert environment of the Antarctic, which has recorded temperatures of −89.2°C and wind speeds of 259 kilometres per hour.
Conceived by D-Air Lab as the first architectural envelope, consisting of an intelligent under-suit embedded with advanced wearable technologies programmed to monitor the anthropometric parameters of scientists deployed in extreme environments and of an insulating ergonomic outer-layer, the Antarctic Suit prototypes were tested at the Space analogue “Concordia Station” by members of the Italian National Antarctic Programme ENEA on the occasion of the bicentenary of the first recorded sighting on the continent.
