ANISH KAPOOR AT GALLERIE DELL' ACCADEMIA

UNA designed the exhibition for Anish Kapoor’s retrospective at the Gallerie dell’Accademia, on occasion of the 59th Venice Biennale. The exhibition unfolds in the spaces of the old Chiesa della Carità, annexed to the museum. The sequence of three main gallery spaces offer completely diverse experiences to the viewer. Whilst the first gallery presents new works by the artist mostly on canvas, the second gallery opposes two large scale artworks - one of which, “when I am pregnant”, literally unfolds from the wall into a large scale cantilever. Opposite this white, silent, abstract work, a cannon violently shoots red wax into a small side gallery. In the third, and last, main gallery, a field of podiums punctuate the space encasing the space-deceiving, objecthood-defying recent black works by Kapoor.
