Antarctic Expedition

UNLESS’ team ventured to the Antarctic in January 2019.

With the goal of conducting research and calling to action in defense of our Global Commons, UNLESS’ team ventured to the Antarctic in January 2019. On site, UNLESS conducted numerous conversations with the scientific and logistics personel operating in the continent to better understand the architecture, logistics, and geopolitics at play and how scientific research weaves its way throughout in the only demilitarised and denuclearised continent. Given the architectural background and interests of the team, special focus was given to visiting scientific stations, devoting particular attention to a typological study and reflection on the sustainability measures implemented in the region and the lack of building regulators. The expedition was essential to UNLESS’ understanding of the complexity of the forces at play in our Southernmost Global Common and to build the network of UNLESS on the ground.
